Minutes

The meeting was called to order by Shannon Wawruck at 12:08 pm, at the Holiday Inn, Muskegon

Roll Call showed 7 officers present and 2 excused.

No prayer and no treasurers report but the bank balance as of July 31, 2017 bank statement was $1310.16.

Minutes were read and approved with minor spelling corrects.

Old Business – None

New Business – Mark Sutton was elected the 2017-2018 NALPA President in Reno.

Discussion was held on whether MALPA wants to raise the dues to $20 which would also include a membership to NALPA.

President Shannon handed out the award plaques.

Discussion on the good and bad of newsletters, media, etc.  A survey will be done and an article in the newspaper about MALPA membership and contest entry appeals.

Moved by Ken Pierce, and seconded, to give President Shannon $200 to help defray the cost of the suite used for the meeting.  Motion carried.

Moved by Ken Pierce, and seconded, to give Garrett Viehl $55 for the food provided.  Motion carried.

The American Legion Leading Candidate for National Commander Brett Reistad addressed MALPA on media – paper, websites, social etc. and how important the press association is to The American Legion Family.

Questions was asked if Wilwin can compete in MALPA contests.  Shannon will check into it.

Moved by Eric Nelson, and seconded, that we allow the MALPA President to make meeting room arrangements which will allow our own food for the meetings at convention and conferences.  Motion carried.

50/50 raffle winner was Ken Pierce for $30 and $30 to MALPA.
